A Brief History of Arts Ambassadorships

In the mid 1950's, the U.S. State Department launched a program called Jazz Ambassadors with the goal of bringing U.S. music to the farthest reaches of the globe to help foster peace and understanding amongst cultures. This program was so successful that it has continued to grow and evolve into everything from basketball teams and authors to dance groups and bluegrass bands. Turns out, when you give artists from different cultures an opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other, they quickly find the innate commonalities we all share as humans.
